At Riviera Horse Floats, quality is not something we simply talk about. We invest in independent engineering analysis and physical laboratory testing so our customers can see the evidence behind the parts of a float that matter most.

engineered drawbar strength

Riviera uses the same heavy-duty drawbar design across our applicable 3,500 kg and 4,500 kg ATM horse floats.
 

The Adventure and Camper drawbar designs were independently engineering analysed to the strength requirements of ADR 62/02 at 4,500 kg ATM. The assessment considered longitudinal, lateral and vertical loading.
 

During the longitudinal analysis, 67.5 kN was applied at the hitch. This is equivalent to approximately 6.9 tonnes-force. The engineering report concluded that both assessed Riviera drawbar designs satisfy the applicable ADR 62/02 strength requirements at 4,500 kg ATM.
 

This means customers purchasing an applicable 3,500 kg ATM Riviera receive the same drawbar design that has been independently assessed against the higher 4,500 kg ATM strength requirements.

Safety-chain attachments

Riviera safety-chain attachment systems have also undergone independent physical load testing by Truck Engineering Australia.
 

For the 4,500 kg ATM attachment, the system passed ADR 62/02 clause 14.4 testing at an average longitudinal tensile load of 45.5 kN and an average vertical tensile load of 23.2 kN. No deformation was observed after either test and no breakage occurred.
 

The 3,500 kg ATM attachment also passed, reaching an average longitudinal tensile load of 35.0 kN and an average vertical tensile load of 17.7 kN. Again, no deformation was observed and no breakage occurred.

The sample reached a peak load of 51.8 kN before failure, equivalent to approximately 5.28 tonnes-force. After testing, no visible fracture or significant damage was observed on the bottom surface, with only a slight indentation noted.

FLOORING

A horse float floor must do more than look solid. It must provide a strong and dependable foundation beneath the horse.
 

Riviera's composite flooring system combines a 25 mm polypropylene honeycomb fibreglass panel with an additional 3 mm, 10-layer compression-moulded FRP structural sheet bonded over the top.
 

The system was independently load tested by LMATS Perth Laboratory. A 100 mm cylinder was used to apply a concentrated point load at the centre of an 840 mm x 840 mm sample to simulate a horse's hoof pressing down on the floor.
 

Travel comfort flooring

Riviera is continuing this commitment to evidence by arranging independent comparative testing of our Travel Comfort Flooring against traditional 10 mm hammer-top rubber.

The proposed testing will focus on customer-relevant measures such as impact and shock absorption, vibration reduction, compression and recovery, durability and wet slip resistance. Results will be published once testing is complete.
